Does anyone have a mattress topper

on their bed. Have been looking at some, our mattress, isn't all that comfy, and rather than get a new one, thought we'd try a mattress topper.

RE the fitted sheet thing. Our old fitted sheets just about fit over the topper, but the newer ones have longer sides and fit beautifully. I bought my last fitted sheet from Dunelm BTW.

We bought a new mattress and topper from Ikea almost 2yrs ago and I'm really impressed.

They are really good quality for the price and it's the most comfortable mattress we've ever had - as good as my parents' Vi-Spring which cost about £2K.

It is really annoying with fitted sheets though - because of Ikea's weird/Euro sizing normal king-size sheets are a bit small and their own fitted sheets only just fit, but overall I'm happy and would stick with the mattress + pad.

moragdingdongbellingham · 13/01/2011 10:08

We have a memory foam topper (from Debenhams). I put it on a brand new mattress though so had no doubt it would be comfortable. It came with it's towelling Confused own cover which also covered the mattress but I haven't had a problem with my normal sheets fiting over it.

I saw the Ikea toppers also and think I will get one for DDs bed.

Thefarside I bought a supershort valance sheet to match my new bedding and would be interested in the made to measure ones you mention as I had to send it back.
I have a high bed and it looks too nice to cover up but I don't like to see all the junk under it!

Hi HollyBBB

Just got my zonesleep topper and its really easy to fit sheets on as it's only about 20mm thick but what a revelation in terms of feel!!
Like no other bed surface I've experienced.Called trimorphic or something like that. Sleeptight was right about it anyway.

BecauseItoldYouSo · 13/01/2011 19:42

Yes we have goose down ones from Northern Nights and they are wonderful. It is like sleeping on a cloud.

Highly reccommended.

Sanesometimes1 · 14/01/2011 00:42

Mine is like a great big marshmallow absolutely wonderfu - it is a bit hot though so might have to remove in the summer.

SleepTight · 14/01/2011 09:25

Rattles,

What mattress is it you're using? I'd be curious to see whether it's foam, sprung etc. Mines sprung and you could pretty much fell all the springs where the mattress had obviously softened and weakened, that' until I got the topper ;)

Eglu · 14/01/2011 09:27

We have a down one by Northern Nights from QVC. It is amazingly comfortable and I'd struggle to sleep without it.

SleepTight · 14/01/2011 09:37

Problem with down though is that mites and bugs love natural materials so they can breed etc, but I agree they can be really comfortable. BTW rattles, I've just posted on another discussion, some people getting really hot! I said you'd back me up :) type in mattress topper in the search, it's the one with the swear word in the title :s

rattles · 14/01/2011 15:35

Hi Sleep tight,

I tried them all. I was a bit tight when I bought the last mattress and, like you the springs were an issue so I decided to spend a bit more on a good topper but apart from this zonesleep one they were all memory foam and ITS TOO HOT. Particularly at my time of life (I'm 54)if you know what I mean!!

This trimorphic stuff is really different. Don't want to think about the bed bug/mites thing. Anyway, I can wash my new one. Can't do that with anything else and get the same product out the other end!!

BecauseItoldYouSo · 14/01/2011 16:09

You can get Silk filled ones. They are ££££££ but mites and bugs can't stand silk and stay away.

SparkyToo · 16/01/2011 20:06

Oh no what a shame. What you need is some extra deep fitted sheets like these. I recently got some of the ones that are 38cm deep and it's great to have fitted sheets that don't ride up the side of the mattress and just look a complete mess!

We have a mattress topper from The Fine Bedding Company and it is absolutely fabulous, really lovely and soft.

Oops - managed to post the same message twice!!!!

TheFarSide · 16/01/2011 21:01

Moragdingdong after trial and much error, I have found fitted valance sheets with a total 25 inch drop (10ins mattress, 15 ins frill). They are from wilkinsonplus.com (I actually bought them in a local store) - they are box pleated valance sheets and come in a range of colours. They are about £14 and better quality that the ones I ordered off the internet.

Weirdly, not many mainstream shops do valance sheets and those that do only offer white and cream.

jalopy · 17/01/2011 09:53

Holly, you can get deeper fitted sheets to go over topper and mattress from John Lewis.

SleepTight · 03/02/2011 10:29

I found that too. I had an old memory foam topper. It's a pain because you can't attach straps to memory foam to secure it. So the only way to keep it in place is with the fitted sheet.
I'll say it again because they really helped me, but the Zonesleep toppers are thin enough for the fitted sheet problem not to occur. I saw in a forum the other day that someone didn't believe they could offer support if they were less than 2" thick. But I disagree. My Zonesleep topper stays in place and it was so easy to fit the sheet over the top. I think there's also been some people asking about fitted sheets here:

Message 33 and 34...

DreamTeamGirl · 03/02/2011 22:38

SleepTight, I am guessing you and Rattles both work for Zonesleepers as all you ever do is come on and chat to each other and rave about these mattresses!!
Sounds suspiciously like a sales patter too ....

reader12 · 17/03/2014 14:25

Argh - DreamTeamGirl having re read this ancient thread I think you're right, it's all sales patter.

However I'm desperate to make my bed more comfortable so I've just ordered one. I wake up very morning with mystery pain in my left hip which doesn't happen if I sleep in our spare bed which is softer. And my husband gets hot when he sleeps so I suspect he would hate memory foam. So before we give up and sleep in separate beds forever, or buy a whole new bed I thought this might be worth a try.

Will report back!
