My mac is filthy and dry clean only, I have no money to dry clean it and it's the only only coat I have that's suitable for autumn. It was pretty expensive so I really don't want to ruin it.

Do you reckon I could wash it on a wool or silk cycle or is that just going to be a disaster?

I washed my mac and the inside coating (which I didn't know it had) went all peeling and icky - it looks disgusting.

I washed it on a low temp fast cycle I think.

My SIL says I should have put it in a pillow-case or a "delicates" bag to protect it.

Ah, OK, thanks.

It's not an actual mac, just mac shaped IYSWIM. It certainly doesn't have any hidden layers, is just one thin layer. I don't think it's coated in anything, it's not waterproof in any case.

Should be fine on a silk cycle and a low spin then shouldn't it?

I don't know

I would hand wash it tbh. Very weak solution of woolite or similar detergent, luke warm water in the bath.

Very gentle swishing about, then rinse a couple of times. If it is ok then next time I would do the wool cycle.
