kettle scum

hey, recently bought a new kettle, about 6 weeks ago id say, and it is scaly beyond belief!!
what can i do to rid it of nasty ness?? and how can i stop it happening again?

Kettle scum is usually due to hard water. Pour some vinegar or lemon juice in it and leave it for a couple of hours before you rinse it out. If you have hard water though, it will happen again. I think using a Brita type water filter jug should soften your water though. Not sure, we have very soft water.

A scoop of citric acid should sort it. Put in a scoop then boil as normal, rise out then boil normal water and rise again.

I should think filtering will help but i live in a soft water area so i dont have to do mine that often anyway.

Our water is vile. I use Brita filter to stop the kettle getting scaley and so that the tea isn't too scummy!

And every now and again I fill kettle with anti calc and leave it over night.
