Hand washing linen trousers?

I have a new pair of linen trousers and they are handwash only!!! I usually check labels and never buy dry clean or handwash. Anyway why would they be handwash? What would happen if I were to dare wash in the machine at 30? Tea towels are 100% linen and survive a hot wash don't they? Am torn between bunging in the machine (easy option) or washing by hand PITA but safer. Any experience out there?

If your machine has a gentle or hand wash try that if not my test is always,
a) did this item cost lots and is still new
b) would i be overy upset if it was ruined
if answer yes to those two i hand wash. hand made linen dress gets hand washed cause it took me 3 friggig days to make and i am not making it again! but the linen trousers i got from sainburys on special go in the machine.

I can*t be arsed to wash anything in handwash.
if the mashine has a handwash or wool cycle I would use that and a low spin.
if you are unlucky the seams shrink if you do it in a normal wash and maybe the creases are more difficult to iron out...

Thanks for your answers, still can't decide but will look at my machine. Trousers cheap but a quality brand (Windsmoor) so really don't want ruin. At least I know why it they might be handwash now.
