Pine Floor Boards

When we had the ground floor of the house gutted about 4 years ago we had new pine floorboards put down all through the house. These were varnished with proper floor varnish but not stained.

the problem is that even with the varnish the floors have got scuffed - particularly in front of the kitchen sink and dirt gets in the scuff and then the floor always has these black marks on it.

DH has recently started obsessing about this and is threatening to bleach the floor to get rid of these marks. I thing this could be a bad idea but don't know what else to suggest....

Any ideas please lovely MNeters?

I would suggest you sand the marks out and then re-finish it with Osmo Polyx Oil which is pretty well bulletproof and can be patch renovated. Varnish will always scuff unless you put about 10 coats on.

oh - eeek - that's a bigger job than I was expecting/hoping.... The reason for doing it is that we're putting the house on the market - Open Day is on the 18th of Sept....

Oh! Sand and varnish just in that room/area? Scummy wood floors in kitchens are quite offputting, especially if the rest of the house is looking good, it will be worth your while to get it sorted out IMO.
