washing machine smells musty

Our washing machine has begun to smell, which means the washing isn't coming out smelling nice either. basically it's a mildewy type smell which i suspect is the result of leaving damp washing in there overnight.
does anyone know how to make it smell nice - or at least neutral! - again?

Get some soda crystals from tesco (about 70p) and pour them into the powder compartment of the draw then run the machine empty on it's highest temperature setting.

I do this once a month. Also it's wise to do a 60'degrees wash atleast once a week, to stop limescale and general smells

Soda crystals do the job as does citric acid, i do mine once per mth too on a 95 degree wash as its gets smelly :)

Also keep the washing machine door ajar when not in use :)

Make sure your filter is empty, they fill up with gunk surprisingly quickly, especially if you use liquids and then run on a 90 degree wash empty with just regular powder detergent. You will need a pan under the filter as you open it to collect water.

Wipe around the seal as well, again, liquids leave gunk there.
