Help - I need to get silver pen off a dining chair before DH gets home

Mindee has written on the dining chair with permanant silver pen. The seat is plasticy pretend leather/ leatherette.

I wondered about white spirit - anyone got any ideas as DH won't be happy.

Have you tried a baby wipe?

Surely dh will realise that accidents happen with young children in the house, and a pleather chair is not really worth getting upset about?

I've tried a baby wipe - just smudged it a bit.

He won't be angry, just annoyed and he's not overly keen on the childminding anyway (although he likes the money). I might just try white spirit on a tiny bit and see what happens

You could try testing on the underside of the seat.

Nail varnish remover might work? (but test it first).

That's a good idea, I'll give it a go

Try hairspray first - less likely to damage the varnish, and shifts most pen marks

someone suggested perfume t me to get permanent marker off polished wood, worked brilliantly

Riddo · 02/09/2010 14:41

I tried nail varnish remover but it took the shine off the fabric.

Then I had a brainwave and rang the shop where I bought the chairs. They suggested washing up liquid which worked! It's not all off but is much better. It would never have crossed my mind to try anything so gentle.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. I won't mention it to DH who hopefully won't even notice Smile

Also, the silver pen is going in to the high cupboard
