Our sofa is a brown leather monstrosity with feather cushions - a hang over from DH's batchelor past!

The cushions sag and need puffing up every 2 mins and I can no longer bear it - I just wan to lounge in comfort!
Should I get rid of the sofa (freecycle/ebay) and go to Ikea or should I replace the cushions with foam or foam/feather mix?
Has anyone successfully replaced the cushions without a. speanding more than the cost of a new sofa or b. having horrid looking foam that spoils the sofa appearance....please help!

I had a feather cushioned backed sofa. The feathers drove me mad! I bought 4 regular cushions from dunelm mill and binned the feathers. Was much better.

It is the ones you sit on that bother me most - the back ones are not too bad!

I have the same problem - my trouble is I fought DP tooth and nail to buy them because they looked wonderful.

I wish now I had gone for solid cushions - the sofas look great all plumped up but it takes one man nano seconds to destroy the plumped up look.

Pah!

At the back of house and home type magazines I frequently see an advert for a device that fits under seat cushions to stop the sagging. Can't remember the name of the company though - might be cheaper than replacing cushions.

Just a thought

ooh, I will have a look for that - sounds interesting thank you. I agree - it takes me 5 mins to plump the cushions & DH 2 seconds to squash them!

I hear ya! We had a huge feather everything sofa from DFS. Finally left it with my cousin in Australia before we moved back to the UK. I hated the thing with a passion. Looked fabulous when all plumped up but a mess as soon as anyone sat on it!

We now have a leather sofa and 2 chairs. Still not my ideal sofa but it was cheap!

I have still got feather cushions. I just prefer them to manmade ones but at least the whole thing doesn't look a mess all day!

our sofas have foam seats and feather back cushions - the best combination imo.

it may be worth getting the seat cushions refilled with foam. there are companies that will cut this to the right size. i have seen ads in the back of mags where they sell several different types, including dunlopillo latex.

have to say our sofas are really comfy and around 7 years old now. feather back cushions still need plumping but not as often as you describe.

We had this issue with an old sofa and got a local company to make new seat cushions. Much better.

Maybe you could try getting someone to make you a kind of half-foam half-feather cushion?

There's bound to be someone locally who could do it and it would be cheaper than a new sofa.

I've not heard of anyone who's replaced feather with foam and depending on the style/texture of the leather it could ruin the appearance. You sound like you hate the sofa anyway so maybe it's a good excuse to get rid of it!

We replaced feather seat cushions with foam and it looked great. It was a fabric sofa though. Loads of companies do it; google them and maybe email and ask about the leather aspect.
