It is quite new and i have cleaned all of the seals, detergent drawer etc. What can I do? It just smells musty and mouldy (you would expect the seals to be filthy IYSWIM) - it doesn't make the washing smell though. Is there something I can run through it?

have you run it on a hot (90 degree) wash with detergent (bio preferably)? Or you can use white vinegar instead. Try to leave the door open a bit in between washes too

It maybe the pipes inside the washer or smells coming back from the drain through the waste pipe, i do a 90 wash with soda crystals then a rinse with citric acid. This usually stops mine from smelling. You could also try white vinegar in the rinse if you have no citric acid. Try flush your drain outside with a bit of bleach just incase its that.

I have to do mine at least once per mth to stop smells.

wash at 90C with some bleach in the prewash. To not waste a cycle, you can put a loads of 'dirty' grim whites, sheets or towels (whites) or kitchen/floor towels...

Autumndew · 26/08/2010 13:23

have you been using lquid tabs? that can make machine smell

NothingButTheTeuch · 26/08/2010 13:27

I was just about to say the same thing as Auntumndew...I have no idea why, but using liquid detergent definitely makes your machine pong Hmm

I alternate between liquid and powder to keep the whiff at bay.

mamaloco · 26/08/2010 13:40

Forgot to tell you have to wash the detergent drawer as well before the cycle. I stopped using the softener and I don't seem to have mold/smell anymore. And my clothes don't smell really different from before.

Empty your filter. It will be minging, so warn you to wear gloves and have a pan/bowl underneath it to catch water and gunk.

Then do the 90 degree wash for good measure.

littledawley · 26/08/2010 17:34

Right, will look at the filter and try to find some vinegar. I use aerial liquid stuff so might buy some powder.
I generally do keep it shut as my toddler is fascinated by it and i'm worried she'll climb in!
Where do you get soda crystals and citric acid??

you can get soda crystals from the supermarket, dont know about the citric acid.

peachybums · 26/08/2010 22:43

Soda crystals from supermarket i got a big bag of citric acid from ebay but you can buy smaller packets from boots in the baby section as you can use it in steam sterilsers to clean the element. I only get the big bags cos i use it for the steriliser, washer and kettle.

Citric acid from Tescos in the Indian spice bit - Rajah brand (for meat tenderising?).
