Does your kitchen always look clean and how often do you clean your kitchen?

Is your kitchen always clean? I go into some of my friends houses and their kitchen ( and house) is always spotless. I do clean my kitchen everyday but chances are if you turned up at my house, the kitchen would look a right mess and I haven't got round to it yet.

If you are one of those people whos kitchen always looks like a showhome, how do you do it?

Thanks Grin

'Does your kitchen always look clean?' - HAHAHAHAHA

How often do you clean your kitchen - Daily.

[shoots self in despair]

mousymouse · 17/08/2010 16:59

No, definately not.
I wipe all the surfaces after dh did the dishes in the evening.

gardenpixie · 17/08/2010 17:05

My kitchen looked clean once. I think it was back in 1997...

Seriously though, erm, no.

It's usually clean (ish) but rarely tidy.

I only know two people whose kitchens are always spotless and I think both of them are verging on OCD. I like to think my kitchen shows I am well adjusted...

Treetrunkthighs · 17/08/2010 17:13

I think I might be one of those people mentioned - verging on OCD with a clean kitchen.

Everything goes in the dishwasher after breakfast and I wipe surfaces. Same after lunch if we're home. With dinner, I challenge myself (god I'm sad!) to get the tea on the table leaving the minimum of mess on the sides...pour peas into colander, don't put pan on the side put it straight in the dishwasher.

I have had to adjust a little now that we have recycling bin and I need to wash and drain plastic pots that can't go in the dishwasher...it grates a bit having them on the drainer tbh Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/08/2010 17:19

I have a very tidy kitchen, it never gets really dirty (unless I am cooking at the time, then every pan in the house is out) because there is nothing there. I hate cluttered surfaces so only have a kettle on the side. When the kitchen was new I went through a stage of putting the kettle in teh cupboard to achieve full minimal effect, but DP said I was bonkers so I stopped that.

Clean it every day, as in clean worktops, sink, clean cupboard doors (bastard white shiny ones), mop floor etc.

moondog · 17/08/2010 17:22

Yes, it is always clean and quite empty.
Can't bear mess or clutter.

Mind you ,haven't dealt with anything kitchen related in weeks because I'm with dh right now in SE Asai and he has a live in housekeeper.

Ruddy marvellous.

LibertyGibbet · 17/08/2010 17:25

I clean the kitchen daily. Wipe sides and aforementioned bastard white shiny doors before breakfast. Clean sink and butcher's block every day after washing up breakfast things. Floor is mopped twice weekly. Fridge, microwave and cooker cleaned weekly.

I too have no clutter in there.

Mirrorball · 17/08/2010 17:28

I am making a note to myself to clean fridge, microwave and cooker weekly and mop floors more. My kitchen is superficially clean and tidy. Cupboards, utility room and garage a STATE... embarrassing.

Liberty - if you clean your cooker weekly, what product do you use? Once I give mine a proper deep clean (with an atom bomb) I will use a weekly product....

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/08/2010 17:30

I couldn't cope if the kitchen was dirty or messy.

I am afraid I do stand there with my hand on my hips and give a satisfied 'aaaah' whenever I have finished cleaning and it looks nice.

What a nob, etc.

lill72 · 17/08/2010 17:30

wow I am impressed and quite ashamed that my kitchen is not up to this standard. I don't have a dishwasher which makes it so much harder to look spotless all the time, as you can't put dirty dishes in the dishwasher. they have to be on the bench or washed immediately, which is not always possible. ugh. It drives me crazy as I like a tidy kitchen. tips welcome!!

I don't have a dishwasher, I prefer to wash dishes by hand

noddyholder · 17/08/2010 17:36

Mine is usually tragically clean

My kitchen is mostly always tidy.
I have a large storage box in the cupboard under the sink that all my dirty plates etc go into through the day and I wash them up in the evening. I keep a t-towel folded on the window seal to dry off the sink if I have run the taps. I quickly wipe off all surfaces after each use with this towel as well and then they get a proper wash down in the evening.
I sweep and mop every night and hoover twice a week.
I empty the bin every morning.
I do have an old empty ice-cream tub on the first counter where all bits and bobs go until I have time to put them away (which could be weeks, things like toy cars that turn up on the floor)

AbsOfCroissant · 17/08/2010 17:42

Yes, it is quite clean (I will caveat this with - I don't have children). It is rather small, but we keep it uncluttered and both DP and I clean as we go along when cooking. Dishes are always washed/in dishwasher before bed, and the counters are always wiped down (as is stove top if stuff has splattered). The bag from the bin is then taken out to the corridor to be cleared away by the porter in the morning.

MmeRedWhiteandBlueberry · 17/08/2010 17:44

I clean my kitchen everyday, and it takes about 10 minutes for it to appear like a kitchen on "How Clean is my House?".

My excuse is that I actually use the kitchen to the full, so it's not possible to always have everything put away.

FloraFinching · 17/08/2010 17:44

Yes, pretty much always looks fine. As long as you don't cast your eyes down to horror that is the floor.

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 17/08/2010 17:45

Mine is clean. I have nothing on the surfaces - not even a kettle (have a boiling water tap) and I tragically polish the black granite worksufaces and white gloss units.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 17/08/2010 17:52

at the moment it looks like a bomb site because it is full of builders stuff and not yet complete, However - generally, it looks clean but a bit untidy.

with the new kitchen I have much more storage, we have 3 new cupboards for the things that we have previously had to have on the side as there was no space. But we now do not have a utility room so will have to keep a check with DH and all the detritis that he used to keep in there!

MNTotoro · 17/08/2010 17:55

You need tp put things away as you go along, and not let it pile up.

Clear up after each meal/use. The it will stay tidy.

Messy kitchen is bad, as it would mean you couldnt clean it properly. It would make me not want to eat from it.

LaDiDaDi · 17/08/2010 18:01

Ours has too much stuff on the worktops.

Kettle
Toaster
Tea caddy plus dp's assorted boxes of teas
Biscuit thing
Kitchen roll holder
Jug of filtered water
Washing up liquid
Squash bottle
Microwave
Tea towel
Oven glove
Box of assorted nuts to pick at
Fruit bowl
Some post
Dp's tub of loose change
Dd's money box

Dishes always put away and hob cleaned. Floor mopped approx twice/wek.

Fluteyboots · 17/08/2010 18:09

This thread has made me feel I'll.

Floor is clean unless you bend down. Mopped weekly. Sides daily, hob weekly. Oven, ahem ??

I did tidy the tea towel drawer yesterday though

clam · 17/08/2010 18:11

Look, I've just cleaned mine - properly - today. But it still doesn't look like my OCD SIL's kitchen. Hers could be in a magazine.

Not FAIR!

LillianGish · 17/08/2010 18:18

Right - off to clean my kitchen. Actually in my experience my friends with cleanest kitchens do the least actual cooking (they don't want to mess up thei kitchen!)
