Wicker covered dining chairs - How best to recover?

Hi, I have solid pine dining chairs that have woven wicker seat pads. Very similar to this

I want to recover them with a wipe clean fabric. I have just taken one of the seats off and it has been woven around a frame. Dp thinks I should leave it as it is and put some foam over it and then cover it. I want to get rid of the wicker all together.

Any ideas?

I think the seat bit needs to sit inside the frame on the chair on a littel ledge. Is there a little ledge under the wicker bit?

I havent looked yet. There are loads of cob webs on them! I think I will get dp to cut one seat off later and see whats under the wicker.

Maybe I could nail a ledge onto the frame if there isnt one. They are quite thick though - Probably 1.5 inches.
