Cooking with gas

I have spent my life (until a couple of years ago) cooking electrically and have had no problem with burning food. But now - everytime I am trying to cook a stew or similar things which should be cooked slowly and on low temperature it comes out burnt even if I stir regularly.

Can anyone give advice?

Where abouts in the oven are you putting it and at what setting?

To clarify - I am using the top burners, not the oven.

I use the smallest simmer burner when I'm cooking casseroles on my gas hob. I do initial cooking on one of the other burners, then transfer over to the simmer burner - on lowest setting - for the long cooking period.
