nice squishy living room carpet ?? How to get it

About to choose a new living room carpet and I would ideally like a nice "squishy" sort that I can sink my toes into IFKWIM.

To get this effect am I best off paying reasonable price for the carpet or not worrying too much about the price of the carpet but getting expensive underlay ??

I put hardboard on top of the floorboards and then get a medium price underlay and a mid-priced carpet....

spend loads on the carpet and get a decent underlay but not too pricey. The man in our carpet shop only sold one kind - he didn't think much point in going mad.

Go and look on Bank Holiday weekend. I got a great deal on the squishiest of squishy bedroom carpets then. The salesman said it's when they always have their best deals on. Just got normal underlay.
