the loo. How often do you clean it and what do you use to clean it? Also do you use a toilet brush?

every few days as needed (3year old just out of nappies...)

I

  • remove all skidmarks with brush and flush (if there are skid marks).
  • put in loo cleaner (usually harpic blue).
  • leave for a while.
  • clean the outside, seat, lid with all purpose cleaner.
  • brush around the rim and down the bowl
  • flush
  • one last wipe to get rid of all droplets

is someone of the family has diarrhoea I use antibacterial surface cleaner.

my loo cleaning ritual is a squirt of domestos around the rim, then i leave it to do it germ killing best whilst i either have a shower, bath my lo, or clean the rest of the bathroom. I then wipe down the cistern, flush, seat and outside with dettol and then brush under the rim and down the water. I then flush before adding a bit of cheapo nice smelling own shop brand loo cleaner down the loo and leave it till the next flush. I love a clean loo.

I think the secret is to NEVER EVER use the loo brush to wipe away skid marks. Pour hot water down the pan for that.

CheerfulYank · 08/08/2010 07:29

I have a lot of gross rust stains or something in mine...I wonder what I need to use to get it out?

LittleSilver · 08/08/2010 07:48

Those disposable toilet duck brushes are fab. Loo brushes bleurgh.

DreamTeamGirl · 08/08/2010 10:40

Yes to toilet brush and I clean it every day

My toilet brush bowl has shampoo in it, so I just wipe it round the bowl every morning.

Then before I leave I might squidge some bleach

LittleSilver · 08/08/2010 19:51

Ah, I have a septic tank you see, thus no bleach. I remember it fondly though.

TracyK · 08/08/2010 19:56

Loo brushes give me the heave!
I use a couple of baby wipes - flush them away and squirt bleach each time it gets a bit grubby looking.

cybilliberty · 08/08/2010 19:58

I squirt bleach onto my loo brush while its in its little pot. Then when I go to use it I splatter bleach all down my trousers.

ethelina · 08/08/2010 20:00

CheerfulYank my nan suggested pouring a tube of denture cleaning tablets down the loo and leaving it overnight or a whole day. It only bloody worked! i've never seen a toilet so shiny white!

I clean my loo every night before bed with bleach, using a toilet brush, however I don't flush just leave it and the loo brush in the toilet bowl over night, and when I get up I take the brush out.

Crazycatlady · 08/08/2010 20:19

White vinegar and bicarb into the bowl every evening before bed, quick scrub first thing in the morning with brush, rinse brush in boiling water.

Spray seat, rim and lid with white vinegar solution, wipe with cloth, cloth into laundry.

Keeps limescale at bay and shiny, fresh smelling loo. Cheap and chemical free is a bonus.

Bellepink · 08/08/2010 20:47

I can't bear toilet brushes - even if they are bleached I always imagine germs have crawled up the handle..

Also, having a busy toddler means there is no safe place for toilet brushes to live!

I have got those flushable ones for each toilet and they are great.

whomovedmychocolate · 08/08/2010 20:50

Every other day. Toilet brush and water, bleach once a week. Cleaner also does it twice a week, with wipe things (which I loathe Hmm). We have four loos. That's a lot of skiddies with the man and two kiddies Wink

whomovedmychocolate · 08/08/2010 20:51

CheerfulYank you need cola - doesn't matter what brand but the sugared variety is better. Pour in bowl and leave overnight, then flush the next day.

peachybums · 08/08/2010 21:51

Boiling water from the kettle down the loo and a big scoop of bio washing powder :D leave overnight and in morning give a scub and flush with a brush! Gets rid of stains no probs. Bleach spray for seat and round the top where the boys wee ]hmm]

stofstg · 09/08/2010 08:24

well with all this talk of loo cleaning, and after a weekend full of guests my 2 loo's have taking some punishment so am going to take advantage of an empty house and give the bathrooms a good seeing to this morning. Who else is gonna join me for a loo cleaning blitz today? Lol

Fibilou · 09/08/2010 08:40

clean it every day and brush whenever there are skid marks

mousymouse · 09/08/2010 09:59

stof - have just squirted harpic down the loo :)

CheerfulYank · 09/08/2010 21:00

Ooh, interesting! Am going to have to try both the cola and the denture tablets. Not at the same time, though! :)
