blood out of wood

my 5 year old had a nose bleed and it went all over my stairs any idea's of how to get rid of it.

if it's bare wood then sanding it down is probably your best bet... we haven't any experience with blood stains, but my husband has spilt a couple of bottles of ink on wooden floors in the past...
