Fleas and flies!!

Oh this makes my home seem awful! I am being driven mad by fleas and flies. We have two cats who have been treated for fleas, wear flea collars but...........we keep finding fleas, we have used a flea bomb and flea spray but they persist! The second thing is flies, I have my back door open all day and in they come, I won`t use fly spray in the kitchen, have tried old fashioned fly papers but just cannot get rid, they make me feel sick landing on my kitchen work tops etc. Please has anyone got any ideas what works? They are driving me insane, I go round all day saying, "cats, kids, fleas and flies"!!

get yourself one of the electric flyswats to get rid of flies ,no advice about the fleas though.

not only does it zap the flies ,its quite good exercise trying to follow them round till you can swat them !!

Flea collars and the sprays don't work very well - you want Frontline - get it from somewhere like petpharm.co.uk - or superdrug if you want to get it on the high street.

Flies are attracted by food and you can buy a little plug in killer with a blue light that they are drawn too and explode into (hurrah!) I feckin' hate flies. But we have a thatched house and they are drawn by the cool of it and the buggers really annoy me. I too hate them landing on things.

You can get a beaded curtain for your doors but frankly they are annoying and don't entirely solve the problem, they just make the flies fitter by the time they've resolved the logistics of getting in!

Oh and only put down catfood when the cats are fed and remove it immediately afterwards, catfood really draws flies!

I know that sounds really patronising - not meant to be but sometimes people don't make the connection.

Thanks, the cats have been frontlined but doesn`t seem to be working. I know its a big problem this year because of the very hot weather we had, its not hot now though!

How long ago, it only lasts a few weeks in high summer.

I used a flea spray called "staykill" that I got from the vets that is for the furniture and carpets, and also used frontline on the cats, and the fleas seem to have gone now (hooray)

whomovedmychocolate - I agree, there must be a source and it's likely to be the pets/food. Could they have brought something into the house and it has died behind a cupboard...

We ended up calling the council and paying them £46 last year to spray the whole house (it's a private contractor that does it but if you book it through the council you pay less). If nothing else works, this will but you have to treat the cats first.
