Steam Irons

Can anyone tell me if those fancy shmancy steam irons are any good please? And if so, why? I don't have a huge budget (£100) and know they can be quite expensive, just wondered if anyone could recommend a particular brand?

Steam geneartors definitely worth it, I have a Phillips which came out well in Which which was about £120 but worth every penny. Worth looking on amazon as this was a bargain price on there.

BLimey. I was wondering what on earth you meant, and then looked on amazon and was , I tell you, to see the fancy shmancy ones with their fancy shmancy oh-my-good-god prices!!

Why do you want one with a big steam reservoir? Isn't that for industrial ironing purposes?

I have a tefal ultraglide, basic steam iron (normal capacity) that can also be cordless (it has different settings so you can use it with or without the cord). I love it. I never use it (hate ironing) but whenever I really have to, it's a great iron.

i loved ours, it was brilliant, made the ironing much easier and quicker. results were better too. you dont need to spend a fortune, get the highest pressure and best plate you can afford but really ours was £15 in somerfield on offer, was a rubbish one that should have been £50 and i bought it thinking well at that price it has to be worth a try and we used it till it couldnt cope anymore. DH is in the military and he really liked it for his uniform too

It just makes ironing so much quicker and you are not forever filling it up. It goes through two or three layers and because it is all steam, it doesn't need a very hot setting so less likely to burn or catch.
this is the same as mine but you can get cheaper steam generators.

Once you have used a steam generator iron, there is no going back.

I would also say, irons don't last 5 minutes in our house for some reason, but I have managed to keep this one a whole year

I hate ironing so much, someone said it makes it quicker but I can't really work out why!! Thanks for the advice though ladies.
