PLease help being very confused, want to treat myself and get a cathkidston bedspread kinda thing. But some are bed spreads and some are eiderdown - what is the difference!? Wanted something to go over the duvet in the winter and also to go over a sheet in the summer?

Isn't an eiderdown a quilt (probably stuffed with feathers) and a bedspread more like a thin blanket (I have memories of candlewick in the 80s...)

I think an eiderdown is more quilted and a bedspread is one piece of fabric

An eiderdown should be filled with the down of an eider duck.

A genuine eiderdown will cost the earth too!

MaryMotherOfCheeses - has defined the eiderdown, our version of the quilt except that it is just big enough to sit on top of the bed. Being padded with eider down it was used in the winter in conjunction with blankets and sheets of course. The bedspread was the top cover, the finishing touch and hangs down over the sides and is a thinner layer. All this comination give you the ability to adjust according to the weather.
