It's the end of the school year. DSs have pretty much destroyed their polo shirts and trousers.
Any tips what I can do with them? They are in no condition to be charity shopped (damn you dry wipe marker pen!!)

I am considering making the trousers with frayed legs into shorts, but what to do with the stained polo shirts? It seems wasteful to just bin them.

There's a pudsy recycling bin at my local asda that says it will accept any clothes whatever state there in.
Things that are in fairly decent nick I would recommend donating to school for 'spares'.

Wonder web for the trousers - turn them into shorts

I use the polo shirts for cleaning up cat sick.

Recycling unwearable textiles is especially environmentally friendly; it gets sold (so raises money for a charity) then shredded into something called shoddy and then reused as upholstery stuffing, that kind of thing. Is done right here in the UK so often no shipping overseas of the raw material. Oxfam has some good pages about it.

pity I don't have a cat colditz I think I may attempt making shorts.

Will have a look to see if there is anywhere near-by that does textile recycling.

Thanks for suggestions.

Do they have logos on? If not why not try dying them some funky colours (maybe tie dye?) to use as messy playing out shirts during the holidays?

sockmonkey · 24/07/2010 08:42

Oooh, could try that. They like messy!
