How hard is it? Has anyone on here without formal training ever done one? I am itching to have a go but don't want to bit off more than I can chew!!

It's not hard.

I quite like piping, I find it makes it easier to get nice tidy lines. To my mind the hardest bit is dealing with the last few touches, because by then you are handling quite large and consequently heavy pieces of fabric.

Not hard, but definately worth tacking everything together first. As others have said the worst bit is the amount of fabric you have to deal with.
