What's in a 'snug'?

Hello,
We're moving house in October (to France!) and our new place has many more rooms than our current house.

There is a room next to the kitchen which we want to use as a sort of family room or snug...we were thinking a sofa, TV, all the DVDs and games and books in there. There's a large space elsewhere for dining table and another sofa. Plus there's a conservatory. There is a separate study already.

So my question is - those of you with a snug or family room, what do you have in there in terms of furniture and stuff? (Doesn't need to be a playroom as there is another large room which we're designating for all toys!!)

Many thanks.

I've always wanted a snug

I would put a squashy sofa, lots of books and magazines and a radio. And a big lock on the door

A snug is a child free room, isn't it?

Ours is called the 'den' by the kids & the 'family room' by us:

  • TV + sat box
  • dvd
  • wii
  • large leather corner sofa
  • desk for laptop
  • couple of side tables

not much else

Ah yes, OfficeBird, the laptop could go in there as the main study is further from the main living areas.

Thanks for the replies.

Driven, I see it more as a family, cosy and informal area rather than child-free...I'm hoping we can then keep the living room a bit more formal! (Prob will never happen in reality)
