Iron help pleeeease!!

Omg DP left a tin to soak with burger fat in because he couldnt be arsed it was baked on. 10 mins later 8 year old DS goes into kitchen reaches across for something and knocks iron into the tray with water and burger fat in!!!

I cleaned the iron but everytime i use the steam my clothes smell of bloody burgers!! Is my iron broken or is there something i can do to fix? Ive tried using ironing water to try freshen it up a bit but didnt do much good

How about filling the iron with white vinegar and let it heat up turn off and leave overnight. It cuts grease and smells very well but you'll have to rinse it with more water to get rid of the vinegar smell!

As long as it works I'm sure the smell will fade eventually.I would persevere with the scented ironing water for a bit.

It's comforting to know this sort of thing goes on in other people's homes too.
