Right, cards on table:

For reasons I am not prepared to divulge, some washing I'd done got left in the machine for a whole day last week in the very hot weather.

When I got it out and hung it up to dry it smelled fine, but now it is dry there is a distant musty smell to it (ykwim) and some of dh's gym gear (which will have been dirtier and sweatier when it went in the wash than any of the things) smell distinctly rank.

I am prepared to ditch the really rank stuff, but what would you do to really deep clean and freshen up the other clothes?

None of it can realistically be washed at over 40 btw .

I am absolutely fastidious about my laundry and this is causing me actual stress!

Have you washed it again?

Make a solution of bio washing powder and soak the lot over night, then do a long wash with bio at 40C and dry outside. Anything that doesn't survive that really will need binning

I'm sure someone will be along with an alternative though

Why can't it be washed over 40, bibbity?

I would wash it again at 60, if possible, with biological powder and a good scoop of soda crystals then put it outside overnight.

Blast it at 60

Yes.just was it again. It will be fine,no need to bin any of it,its just musty water and will wash away.Happens to me quite a lot with towels as I don't have a tumble dryer so on wet days they might be sitting in the laundry basket waiting to be hung up to dry and they go rather musty.
