Have decided to get a Roomba. What is the diff between the various models and is it worth buying up or stick to the basic model??

I loved my basic one even though I did seem to spent longer maintaining him (emptying and cleaning it) than I would have spent normal hoovering anyway. I can't comment on comparisons with the other models though. I would say take out an extended warrenty - I don't usually recommend this, but roombas seem very unreliable. Ours lasted about 2 years and then broke irreperably & we got the full purchase price back.

I have the basic one Could you make use of the timer function - we couldn't as our floors are never clear enough!

I love setting it off when I go out then coming back to a clean floor!

We had a basic one and now have a slightly more advanced one (self-docking and it talks as well as beeps but no timer). I prefer the basic model since it was set to not go over drops so I could let it do our hall and it wouldn't go over the step to the kitchen. New one is set to climb rugs and do small drops (but not stairs) so we have to shut doors to keep it in the hall and it keeps getting stuck under a chair in the living room because it can climb under it but not spin to get out.
I also agree about the extended warranty, our basic one lasted a couple of years then the battery pack went (we got a new battery pack and replaced it) but shortly after one of the sensors broke (still hoping to be able to fix that but got the new one in the mean time).

Our basic model was the Silver, and the new one is the 520.

Thanks all. I think I'll go for the basic. Have a Miele cat & dog which is great and to be honest cleaner comes twice a week but we have a yellow lab and are about to get a black one so thehouse will be covered in hair. House very big and pretty much open plan on ground floor. I presume I can do a diff section each day?

DH raising his eyebrows at talk of roomba but I will spend forever vacuuming otherwise. And I'm asmathtic too so it's a medical necessity!

OK

The difference between the main once is just accessories- phone the iRobot line and they will explain it all. The 520 clean, the 530 celans then docks- the next one, cleans, docks and can use light houses and so on.
The only main difference is between the pet and non pet models
The 530 from John Lewis will cope fine with your labs and I like a lot that it docks

No probs, enjoy. Oh and consider taking the extended warranty as despite being amazing they can be unreliable

Oh and I also own a Cat & Dog and hardly ever turn it on!
