Experiences of using home swap websites

Hi

Not sure whether house swaps or holidays would be the right category, but here goes…

As we approach (early) retirement I’m considering signing up to a home swap website such as Home Exchange. It would enable us to keep the cost of travel down considerably, and that’s a priority for us particularly in the early years of retirement.

Has anyone used Home Exchange or similar? Any experiences - good or bad?

Thanks!

I found the websites to be quite dead, although that might just be my area. Facebook has groups for home swaps and they’re a lot busier, a lot easier to use also.

I’ve a number of friends who use Home Exchange, all very successfully

Yes we had two very successful swaps but not our main home, we swapped our second home.

I would do it again.

Thanks everyone. I’ve had a look at Home Exchange for the types of houses in both our home area (London) and where we have a second home (France). There’s quite a lot on offer. @Nevergotdivorced i think we might follow your example. DH in particular is twitchy about swapping our London home (worried about where we’d put personal items etc) but we often have friends in our holiday house and given the number of swaps in that area, looks like it might work well.
