I may just give up on trying to get them to do homework

DS-now-yr8 talks about h/w & does some without support, but is constantly easily distracted getting big projects done (anything on computer). Sometimes has tearful moments. Doesn't want detention, but it takes a lot out of me to get him to focus (he's always been like that). He'd rather play minecraft (moment my back is turned).

DS-now-yr4 : can do fine but doesn't want to write. I sat with him for almost 2 hours this morning trying to get him to write 4 sentences (he quickly did 16 math problems, at least).

I am so cheesed off & wondering if I should just leave them to their fates.

My ds is in yr4 as well.
From this year, I just remind him and let him get on with it. Writing is an issue for my ds as well, but I realised it doesn't make any difference if I sit with him or not. So now he does his homework in his room and I don't even check it anymore. Sometimes he realise that the homework is due next day at bed time and panic, but it's his fault!
