How to diagnose dsylexia in a HEd child?

I'm wondering whether my 7.5 yo DD might be dyslexic. Her father is, and she shows some of the 'classic symptoms', tho by no means all. How would I go about getting her officially 'checked out' outside of a school? (She's always been HEd). I'm not very worried, just wondering what other people had done in similar situations.

Dyslexia Action can arrange a private test - it can cost between £300 and £ 400 though.

I've just had a chat with my dad, he's been a special needs teacher for years and more recently set up a business working with people with dyslexia and other similar issues.

He suggests looking up the British Dyslexia Association and seeing if they have a local branch(? doesn't seem the right word). If they do then they probably hold evenings where you can go for free for info/support. If they don't have anything local then you could contact them and see if they have any contacts near you they could recommend.

He didn't think that you would need a full psychologists assessment unless you want a statement in place but that a teachers assessment would be more appropriate. They still need to be qualified to assess though, so speaking to people locally who know what they're talking about for a recommendation would be a good idea if possible. Where he works they would cost about £250.
