I'm going to university to do my Social Work degree and then on to be a social worker. Yes, children's.
Would you be comfortable if I was on your local list where you discuss what to do when doorstepped by an establishment representative?

I know I have to tell them. It's only ethical. I'm going to hold off until I'm accepted onto a course though.

Sorry, what's the question? Do you want to know if HE forums would have an issue with you being a social worker, or whether people who have social workers would have an issue with you home educating?

I think if it's the first, then to be fair you'd have to declare your "other hat" when the topic came up, or else not join in with the thread. But I don't see why anyone would have a problem as long as you were being honest.

And I don't think you'd have to mention it on threads which didn't have any connection to the legal side.

This is a local, invite only email list where many people know each other and each other's children.

One of the main people who administrate the list has a problem in principle with anyone representing The Authorities. This is understandable considering quite how shit some social workers can be specifically with regard to HE families.

So these are people I know personally who will need to be reassured that I don't have any professional requirement to shop people to the LEA and that I'm not assessing everyone I meet as an abuser.
