safe internet searching at home

I'll put this query on geek stuff as well. If you let your kid go on the internet at home, what system do you use to block unsavoury sites?

I have a MacBook and so far the kids use Safari and can only access sites on their bookmarks bar. If they want to see a different site they have to ask my permission and I then log in as administrator to add it to the bar.

I'm thinking I'd like to let ds1 search using Google but I don't want him to have unlimited access to all the awful stuff on the web. I already have Google set to 'safesearch' but I'm also thinking of using Glubble. Has anyone else used it or do you have other recommendations?

Glubble was a nightmare for us, as it was overly restrictive.
We had to add every single approved website via DH's parent account on his pc.
It took ages.
Then we'd want to search for something specific eg: Egyptian gods, and have to wait for DH to come home to approve the site; his pc is in his office, and locked for client confidentiality reasons.
It would probably work for younger children who only go on a few sites, and who may accidentally click or google something untoward though.

We use NetNanny. It's fine, and does the job.
