Deregistered - never heard from council. What now?

Hi, we deregistered from school in September and never had any communication from the council. What do I do? Am I obligated to follow this up?

Older sibling was also home educated for a period of time and we had prompt communication from the council, asking for a zoom call and so forth. But this time it’s been crickets.

I happy to leave I as is, as this is for a limited amount of time, will be back to school in about a year and in the meantime we are diligently following the curriculum - but I don’t want any trouble so would be so grateful if someone could help explain what my obligations are with regards to the council.

Thanks

You aren't obliged to do anything now, unless/ until they contact you. Some LAs are snowed under at the moment, so it could be a while.

I'd suggest joining some Facebook EHE groups, such as HEFA. It's wise to gen up on your rights because many LAs try to pressure people into home visits. For multiple reasons, it's better to keep everything in writing.

During our 3yr home education period, the only communication we had from the local council was a few generic emails informing us of local vaccination clinics for my child/group meet ups! They sent a personal email when my child hit 16yrs old, to find out what their plans were after their 16th birthday.

I decided that I would just wait to see if they contacted me, instead of making the first move. I always knew I didn’t have to accept an invitation to meet up, but I knew I would have to submit a report if requested. Thankfully, they never asked for one.

Thank you, I will leave it.

Thankfully our council has been very reasonable with regards to our older home schooler. An annual ten minute zoom call, which I know we’re not obligated to do but felt ok with, and an email to check in. Which come to think of it I didn’t receive this year, so they must be snowed under…

I’m on HEFA, it was very helpful in the particularly beginning when we were learning to navigate it all.

I deregistered 3 months ago and have heard nothing. I know a couple of families who have never been contacted. Best of luck with home education op. Bear in mind the curriculum is under review as it was last reviewed in 2014 so pretty out of date and arguably irrelevant for kids today.
