Cat friendly/safe ways to make my home smell nice.

I have 3 cats and in the summer my windows are always open. However in the cold weather that's not possible. They use litter trays no problem and these are completely emptied and bleached daily. However there's still the pong from when they poo and sometimes a urine smell when I get in. I can't use the usual air fresheners or plug inside as they're dangerous for Cats. What do others use that are safe?

I'd maybe start by looking at the litter and diets.

Admittedly we currently only have one cat but, apart from scooping poos daily, we don't change the litter more than once a week and it definitely doesn't smell. What litter do you use and how many trays do they have? Where are trays sited,?

Do they eat wet food and if so, which one?

I think I'd try and eradicate/reduce the smell at the source rather than attempting to mask it with chemicals.
