Home Education in South Wales

pookstermum · 13/02/2008 19:36

Hi Julienoshoes, thanks for the link, but they dont seem very active at present- I guess some areas may be more into groups than others, I will try and get hold of them again to see if they do still meet up.

There is definately a link to their active support list from that link.

And I feel pretty sure that the group still meets up from one of the members posts on the main lists.

Good luck anyway!

If not, Bristol is very busy. They have a yahoo group, and a website, but the yahoo group is more active.

They certainly have casual monthly meet ups for under 7s at one of those huge soft play places, so it might be worth the journey if you are at the Cardiff end of south wales rather than Neath or further west...

singingmum · 21/02/2008 14:35

I live in south wales and the only meet up group I have heard of meets in llantrisant or swansea. They are both the South Wales Home Ed Network(SWHEN.
I have no contact at the moment with other he'ers except through the internet as there aren't many in my area.I think there are other groups around but most don't shall we say advertise more word of mouth or where some just get together after meeting elsewhere.
Something that might be of interest is that Cardiff museum have a HE list and send letters about once every 2 months with home ed activities and lectures. These are often aimed at age groups but you can normally find something to suit most dc's.

singingmum · 21/02/2008 14:38

Don't know if it would help but if you ever just need advice or to talk you can message me through mumsnet.I've been He'ing for 10yrs so have some experience if anyone is at a loss although not all the answers.Wish I did!

pookstermum · 21/02/2008 20:23

Thanks for that singingmum. The Cardiff museum sounds like a good idea as does Bristol HE group as I am at the Cardiff end.
I am really at the 'toe in water' stage, but I cant see DD going to school in sept, seems she is way too little and having seen/see DSC at school, I'm not sure school is always the right path, at least for LO's (just my view) I am certainly keen to start her off HE with the view of her going when she is a little older, but then I think am I being fair to her!!

Hi pookstermum
Did you get hold of the South Wales HE group in the end?

A link has just been posted on one of the main HE lists, to the South Wales Yahoo list
and that is definately active.

homeEdder · 03/03/2008 09:43

Hi,

I belong to South Wales and South West Wales. There is always loads going on in both these groups

www.swhen.netfirms.com/

I cannot find the link for SWWHE but if you go on to SWHEN posts you will see all the mails of meeting up and there you can get the link for SWWHE from there.

We in fact are in West Wales.

Hello all. In a bit of a rush so forgive me if I have repeated anything anyone else has said.

jamsambam · 03/03/2008 09:51

hi homedder, i think i might be in your area, im not home edding as such but i might end up doing it.

if there are anylinks for west wales let me know!!

pookstermum · 03/03/2008 16:07

Hi Julienoshoes,

I have made contact now, and had some very nice replys I hope to get to a meeting in the next few weeks- Thank you for your help.
DH is really getting into the idea now! So I hope this is the way we will go, very scary thou- no one else to blame if it all goes wrong.

Brill!
Glad you found other home edders. So important IMHO.

"no one else to blame if it all goes wrong."

But then you won't have to share the glory with anyone other than your family either!

homeEdder · 03/03/2008 19:52

Hi,

I have been told for West Wales it is SWWHE list

groups.yahoo.com/group/SWWHE/

If you post a message asking for people in your area that will all say a lovely hello.

Yes, that is the brilliant thing about home edding. It is all down to you, which is not as bad as it sounds. The glory is when your children learn something you know it was also all down to you and I think that is the best bit.
