We are hoping to move from Hertfordshire to North Cambridgeshire in the next few months (however long it takes to sell our house) and have decided to take the plunge and use the move as an opportunity to start home educating our younger children aged 6 and 7. We have wanted to do this for a while, but for one reason or another it has never been the right time until now. Eldest is in year 10 and would prefer to remain in school.
I'm fairly confident about the educational side of things and already have a pretty good idea of where to start, but the social side is making me anxious. We don't know anyone in the area we are moving to (we don't have a lot of friends and family and certainly no real support network where we are now either so not a huge change there, just looking for more space than we can afford here). We will of course enrol them in Beavers and any other clubs that they show an interest in, but I'm not sure that's quite enough. Plus, I won't be meeting other mums on the school run and don't want to end up feeling isolated myself! I'm not on SM (and don't wish to be) but have had a look for local groups using my husbands Facebook account and haven't had much luck, so I thought mumsnet might be the next best place to ask.
Any tips and advice on how to find a home ed community/support network would be gratefully received, along with any other general advice for a parent who is very new to all of this. Thanks :)
