Totally confused about letting LEA know

I have just taken my child out of private school to home educate (learning needs that weren't being met ). Previously was in state school. I just gave notice, and no one asked which school they were transferring to or anything so I presume the LEA won't be notified that I'm home edding. Does anyone know do I legally need to notify them?

No, there is no requirement for you to notify the LA that you are home educating. If you are lucky, you may never come to their attention and you won't have to waste time corresponding with them! If they do happen to learn that your children are being home educated, they are likely to ask for some information about your provision. Take advice on a home ed forum if so - many councils try to make demands which are not actual legal requirements. Some even invite themselves to your home and imply you must accept it!

Thank you. I did think I wouldn't bother letting them know and hope they never contacted me but I wasn't sure if it was legal.
