Hello Im new to this and after any advice you can offer. I am due to start educating my son at home this week. He will be 16 in a fortnight so yr11. the LEA man is coming tomorrow. My son is ASD and had huge problems in mainstream school. Although amazingly last term (yr10) they let him do all his GCSE s a year early ...so he is now the proud owner of 5 c and above. We are going to focus mainly on music and IT....and just wondering what sort of proof the LEA are going to wish to see so far ? With many thanks in advance.

Hi Donna, welcome!

Sorry I only have time for a brief answer. In short, the LA chap does not need to see any proof at all. You don't have to have him visit at all unless you want to.

He will probably be curious about your plans. It is entirely reasonable for you still to be at the stage of formulating plans. Make it clear to him that you are going to try certain things, that you have some ideas of where your son may be going, but your plans will be flexible as you discover what suits your ds and adjust his education accordingly.

There is no requirement for you to provide a broad education so it is absolutely fine to focus exclusively on music and IT if that seems best to you and your ds. I doubt the LA man will be too concerned about your son in view of the academic success he has already had.

Hope you get on well and that your son enjoys home education!! Congratulations to him on his GCSE results.
