Hi there,

We are moving to Colchester at the end of August and are home educating with our 8 year old daughter. We would really love to join a local home ed group in or close to colchester. Currently we live in Hampshire and attend a group and know of other home educators. Any info would be very well recieved.

: )

Hi

I don't home ed, but know Colchester well. And there are a nice group of home edders. There are also lots of classes & activities on offer, too. First site do very good art classes, there's a couple of different cub packs in/close to the town centre, there's forest school, tennis clubs, youth clubs etc. Leisure world offer lots of clubs & the zoo (of course,) is a great. A lot of the parks (high woods, abberton & fingeringhoe,) & the 3 museums do great kids activities too. I think you'll find it a great place to home ed, as there are lots of things on offer, no matter what your dd is interested in. (And no I don't want work for the Colchester tourist board :) )

Hope your happy in your new home

Hi I am home ed my 4 year old son. I am nearby Colchester and know it well. I also visit London a lot individually and with other home edders, we go up at at least once a month. If you'd like to meet for a chat/coffee I'd be more than happy Smile

That sounds like a good idea, we will be moving in August so I shall contact you then,

hi, i will be home educating my 4 yr old daughter in Colchester from September (she'll be 5 in October) she has 2 siblings but didn't get into the same school as them and i decided i am not spending half the day running backwards and forwards between 2 school which are 20-30 minutes apart. Any help, advice, groups etc would b a great help :-)

Anyone know of a prom in essex for home educated people or if not would anyone be willing to help to build a prom ?

willow1222 · 26/02/2026 22:27

Does anyone know of a prom in Essex for home educated 16 year olds or if not anyone willing to help build one ?

Saracen · 26/02/2026 23:49

The best way to find local home ed groups these days is on Facebook. For example, if you type "home education Essex" into the FB search bar you will find a group with 5000 members.

I am sure someone there will be able to tell you definitively whether there is a prom in the works and if not, you can set your own up and publicise it there.
