Temporary home Ed till school place comes up

Hello ladies,
We're moving in next two weeks, We have a place for our middle son at the local primary school but there was no place for my eldest. We were offered a place for him somewhere else but it would be a nightmare to get two little ones to two different places (plus ds3 having to come too). We are first on the waiting list for the local school and dh and I think it's best if we home Ed until place is available. I just want some tips and advice. I plan to have a tutor for a couple of hours a week teaching english and maths, join education city (and any recommendations for anythingn else). I was also going to speak to school to see what topics they're learning week by week and follow the same. I'm also going to enrol them in tennis/rugby/ cricket etc which they can do together and ds1 can mix with his peers. I'd appreciate any feedback/advice.
Thanks

The BBC bitesize website can be a good source of information and short activities and is free.

However I just wanted to add a word of warning, if the primary school is anything like the one I work at then even being first on the waiting list won't guarantee a place. I'm sure that you've thought about this, but if a place didn't come up then how long are you prepared to home school for and would it be worth making local contacts with other home-schoolers for support now just in case?

Than you for your reply. I don't think we have much choice as there weren't any spaces for them both together at any local school. (think it's just the times we live in, overcrowded schools). I'm quite looking forward to he though. We've already got ideas and plans. I do think a home Ed group will be a very good idea. Does anyone know of any in elmbridge? We will assess it over next few months and see how we get on. Don't want ds1 to get bored though or miss the social side. I'm hoping there will be some movement at the school, if not will appeal and if no go there then we'll have to bite the bullet and send ds1 private which will be a real squeeze but there is no choice.

there is another thread in the Home Ed topic about finding other home edders

I don't mean to be unhelpful, I just don't even know what part of the country Elmbridge is in :)
