Advice for soon to be Home Ed Parent abroad

We're moving to Australia for one year to eighteen months in Jan. My 6 year old DD is currently at a great independant prep school which she loves... and she does well there.

We've decided to home ed whilst in Oz as we want her to fully experience the culture and enjoy our time there but at the same time not confuse her with a new education system.

Having spoken to lots of schools over there, it seems that at her age (just turned 6) she would go into what we call year 1. We dont want that happening and we also feel she will benefit from taking a step back from some of the academic pressure she's under..though she is not complaining as such she IS extraordinarliy tired and grumpy all week...we just want he to be a child for a while and see how home ed goes.

We may/may not return her to school when we get back to the UK.

I'm in touch with the Home Ed community in Oz but wondered if anyone has any advice?

I'm plannng on giving her a break when we get there...and then using the Bond Assesment books for guidance regarding her Maths, English and Comprehension...so if she does return to prep school in UK she wont be behind.

Am a bit nervous of relatives reaction but also don't care Grin looking forward to an adventure!

Sorry this is long...what advice do you have re useful UK websites and learning resources?

Many thanks all!

The BBC has an educational website - Bitesize. Coxhoe is another one - click into the curriculum links (it's a junior school website). If I think of anymore I'll let you know. He also likes Free rice but it might be too old her your DD. Have a great time in Oz.
