Very old house, doors and mantle and bookcases are mahogany coloured(non negotiable, can't afford to replace them.) Sofas are dark browny plum leather. Its not a huge room and there will be 3 bookcases. He'd be happy with white or magnolia, but i doubt we'll have such a drastic makeover again. Its not terribly bright either so as much as I'd like a dramatic colour i think it might shrink it. Is a constast/feature colour on the chimney breast dated? Im also considering art deco/Tiffany centre and wall lights.

In similar, I have a chalky white, imperceptible hint of grey. Personally, I think feature colours are dead and you have enough contrast with the mahogany. I think art deco works when surroundings are plain - yiurs don't sound like it.

Yellow/gold would look lovely with dark brown and plum.

Maybe oak apple by Little Greene. or a neutral with warm/brown undertones. Magnolia is dated but definately better than grey….

I'd think about F&B borrowed light, a very very pale blue. It would work well with your other colours.

I agree with either yellow or gold, or maybe sage green - not wildly exciting but certainly more interesting and warmer than white

If it's a lounge and already dark with dark features I would probably go for a darker colour. We inherited mahogany woodwork, I painted it and it immediately modernised it. The features are atill there, they whisper now instead of shouting.

I went with lick green 19 im this room, everyone loves it. At night it's quite dark and cosy, day quite a lot brighter. Rast facing.

Mines dulux soft stone on three wall on the fireplace wall we have a cream background wallpaper with plum coloured flowers. We’ve put a beige/taupe flecked carpet in and I changed the curtains to match. It’s now looking a lot nicer than I can describe. I used ChatGPT as a visual reference before I did it.

Dulux Timeless, it’s a warm white. I like light rooms and with mahogany I’d defo be going light on walls.

Valspar Goose Feathers is lovely, it's a sort of a greige colour so matches with more or less any decor.
