Hard flooring in bedrooms and alternatives to grey carpet upstairs?

We're about to replace the carpet in our bedroom and on the stairs/landing.

The other bedrooms upstairs have light grey carpet and the bathroom floor is an off-white. DH wants to use the same grey in our room and on the stairs & landing. (aware this won't be exact match 3 years on). My issues are;

1. I hate grey. I'm so over it.
2. I think I want hard flooring (LVT) in our bedroom. With a big rug under the bed that you step on out of bed.

So I'm after some thoughts. If you have hard flooring in your bedroom do you regret it for any reason or are you happy with it? A friend has hard floors as their son has dust allergies and loves it.

Secondary question - what colour (if it's not grey) do you have on your stairs/landing? If you can share a picture that's even better!

Ideally I'd like a cream colour, but aware with young children that might be a terrible idea. Wondered about something with a slight bit of pattern/texture to it.

Walls are staying white for a while so no concern over clashing colours there. The stairs lead down to entrance way which has light oak LVT.

stripes on the stairs, will hide muck more than a plain colour and look smart and timeless.

Real wood and rugs, yes, not LVT (personally I really dislike LVT).
You could look at porcelain 'wood' floor tiles/planks.

I think that there can be problems with hard flooring upstairs. What if you need to get to the pipes or electrics?

Hard wood in bedrooms and very happy with it. There has been vomit , pee, fake tan, make up and nail varnish cleaned up from it. Rugs have been replaced a couple of times over the years.

We have hardwood flooring upstairs for 10+ years. Very happy with it and no issues. Rugs in each room to keep them cosy

We have real wood flooring in a light colour - it’s got a slight ‘lime wash’ look to it, but it’s not that. I love it. I also have allergies/ asthma, but I love that I can keep it clean.
I have a few small rugs - one either side of the bed and one by a sofa. I like being able to sweep the dust out from under the bed. We also have white walls and the bedroom has a nice airy feel about it.

Sadly, I still have the grey rug on stairs and hallway; it’s a textured wool and it works well with my dog.

Engineered wood in bedrooms with a large wool rug under the bed. Very easy to maintain.

I think I remember your Tupperware parties now you have said that.

The filthiest dustiest place in the house is under the beds so I would only ever have hard floors in the bedrooms.

We have painted floorboards and large rugs in the bedrooms and did the same at our previous three houses. No regrets.

Currently we have painted stairs (and landing) too, although we're contemplating a stair runner, probably striped which we've done before (Roger Oates).

Well this has been pleasing to me as I was expecting to see all sorts of reasons why hard flooring in bedrooms is a terrible idea, but there's been some excellent points made to the contrary. I dropped a big dollop of fake tan on one of the other bedroom carpets recently and nearly had a heart attached - thankfully for me it landed on a bit of rug I use under my dresser chair so I just turned it around. But I wouldn't have that concern with wipeable flooring!

For the stairs I had considered a runner, but I've seen a few people mention that dust just gathers in the edges not covered by the runner. I also can't afford a decorator to perfectly prep & paint the stairs and while I'm happy to do that, I'm not sure highlighting my lack of skills is a good idea.

A nice oatmeal colour carpet with wool, not shiny and synthetic.

We have had flooring in our room, the only fitted carpet is a stair runner which is I guess a biscuit like colour and it has a black border, the border is a kind of thick cotton material. We only got the runner as we’ve all fallen down the stairs in socks so many times as the wood was very slippy.

We have a big run under the bed, we have it pulled out so it isn’t under the head area/where the bedside tables sit, this also means we have more coverage at the end of the bed like in the attached photo.
