Bedroom decoration decision paralysis - suggestions please!

Hello - last year I got divorced and moved into my own wee flat. I’m currently feeling a bit overwhelmed with decorating decision paralysis and am hoping some of the creative folks on MN might have some helpful suggestions.

I need to decide on bedroom paint colours and am a bit stuck! The room is small but perfectly formed. It’s got a west-facing window but doesn’t get loads of light. I love a farmhouse/cottage aesthetic, and have had some tongue & groove installed behind the bed. The furniture is all simple oak, and there’s a built-in wardrobe. I’m planning on adding a wee wall light above the bedside table for reading. The floor will be sisal-look carpet.

But cannot decide on paint colours for the life of me! I’m thinking white or off-white walls, I like that whitewashed vibe. Then I thought I’d paint all the woodwork, including the wardrobe and T&G, in another colour. Part of me is thinking a warm greyish neutral like F&B Cornforth White, but I’m also wondering about maybe quite a strong blue to tie in with my bedspread and curtains. I really like that Secret Linen Store look for fabrics.

Either way, I’d add in pictures, art, plants, etc to liven it up a bit whilst keeping it simple. Can also get different cushions and blanket to layer over the bedspread.

I like neutrals but there’s a voice in my head telling me I’m being really boring and I should do something bolder. But maybe it’s okay to have a calm relaxing bedroom space?? Uurgh. I also can’t really afford to make a mistake as I don’t have much cash. Or free time. So that feels like another pressure to get it right.

If you’ve read all this, thank you! Any suggestions much appreciated. Even if a totally different idea! I’m spending way too much time on Pinterest and going round in endless circles. I’ve added some pics - might take a little white to load.

Love that mintish sage colour!

@OhfudgeoffThat’s an Aquamarine shade from Little Greene - I was trying something outside my usual palette but it’s not really for me. Thanks for the nice comment though!

Your room is so lovely, such a good vibe!
I’m shite at decorating, my bedroom is white everything. But: the lamps are black, the ceiling lampshade is silver, I have a plant in a black pot and a massive painting of a sea. And a sheepskin rug, white floorboards. That is it.
I find it peaceful. So that’s what I’d do with yours too 😂.
Enjoy your freedom and your peace.

Use chatgpt, upload a good pic of the room and ask it to suggest some styles based on what you like on Pinterest.

I’m kind of similar to you OP as I love neutrals, but now I’ve done my living room and bedroom like that I feel something is missing. For me I think I need to pull in more natural materials like wood or like the sisal rug you mentioned. Everything you’ve said sounds really good in my opinion.

personally I’d recommend against strong blue like you suggested. In feng shui that’s associated with depression or overwhelm. I did my sons room in blue and it really doesn’t give a warm cosy feeling.

feng shui recommends skin colours for bedroom walls so everything from pale pinkish white to dark brown. They say it promotes tactile feelings etc 🤷‍♀️

good luck with it- it sounds like you’re onto a strong start.

@Joyful26 Thanks very much, I’m leaning back towards neutrals - this evening I’m digging through my stash of many tester pots and trying out colours. The eternal hunt for the perfect warm grey with a complementary off white! First-world problems, I know…

I recommend having the same colour on the curved wall and ceiling… we have those curved walls too and I like the rooms where it’s all the same colour, like a cosy cocoon.
The previous owner of our house had done a straight line in some of the rooms to separate wall from ceiling in different colours and I don’t love it.

I would do the panelling and wall behind the bed in one colour, and the other walls and ceiling in another. I wouldn’t do the panelling a different colour from the rest of the wall it’s on.

I like the sage green. Fresh and a subtle contrast to the bedding/furniture.
