Bunk beds

DB and his wife are currently decorating a bedroom for their 2 sons. They’re thinking of bunk beds. Kids are 2 years 4 months and 7. My DM is worried the youngest will climb and fall off the bunk beds. What would you? Any work arounds for this?

My 3.5 year old will be going into a cabin bed soon. I felt apprehensive but it’s a little safer than bunk beds in that the top is enclosed so it’s less of a falling hazard. Is this an option?

Mine had bunk beds at 2 and 5. 2 year old was told she wasn’t allowed up the ladder. It was all fine

That sounds like a good idea.

The youngest I’m not sure he’d listen! He’s very strong willed.

My sons are 5 and 2. We have low bunk beds in their room but also a cot. The 2 year old has just started sleeping in the bottom bunk but apart from that we don’t normally leave them unsupervised and so far no issues. The 2 year old is very adventurous and strong willed too!

Speaking as a grandmother myself: it’s none of your mum’s business. I can understand she’s concerned, but she’s going to have to bite her tongue, silently chant ‘not my kids, not my kids’ and trust their parents an awful lot over the years. Obviously I know best - and of course so does your mum - but advice isn’t likely to be kindly received unless it’s been asked for.
