Glass tiles for the bathroom, but not any old glass tiles...??!?!?

I've probably been watching too much Alan Carr, but I have this vision for the bathroom one day. In my mind's eye I can see glass tiles - but I'd like them to look sort of like the glass you find washed up on a beach: slightly cloudy, different colours (including a hazy bottle green and a shadowy purple?!), and maybe an unusual shape (e.g. vertical undulations). All of course without sacrificing practicality, as I don't want cleaning the bathroom to be too fiddly. And not £17,000 per square metre!

I'm probably asking for the moon on a stick, as I've found nothing like this online. If you can picture what I have in mind, and have actually seen it in existence somewhere, I'd be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction!

These aren’t what you want - but to make sure I understand - do you mean something like this but the tile is made of glass?

Thank you for asking, I appreciate my description needs a bit of clarification - especially as I am a bit vague about what I actually mean!

Here's a couple of pictures - one of an embossed wall tile. This isn't what I have in mind, but the overall effect, of an old texture (but simpler, for a bathroom!).

The other picture is of sea-tumbled glass. So in my dreams, there would be some sort of interesting-textured tile made of this sort of glass, in similar assorted colours.

I've probably just gone completely mad! And it might well be one of those things that seems like a really good idea until you actually do it, and spend the next few years wincing whenever you open the door to that room 🫢

I'm actually wondering whether you could use sea-tumbled glass instead of tiles, and embed it in grout or something to cover the walls...?! Or would that just look completely and utterly horrible?

My ex mil had something very similar in her villa in Spain but distinctly remember they were cubes so were used as the shower screen like you would build a wall with bricks. I loved them though.

That would be a mosaic. And an enormous amount of work but if you wanted to do it, it's not specialist. Unless you're trying to do that as the floor as well, especially if it's a wet room.

ZombiLemon · 07/01/2026 20:00

So you don't want the neat uniform effect of mosaic even if its in an iridescent or metalic catch the light effect? And you dont want the ice cube blocks of glass of 80s bathrooms?

My first preference would be some sort of tile, but if it doesn't exist except in my wild imagination, I might attempt a bit of mosaic (experimenting on something other than the bathroom wall first, just to see if it works!).

Mind you I haven't mentioned any of this to DH yet 😬
He might ban me from watching "transformation" programmes!

Try googling pebble glass tiles?

JamMakingWannaBe · 07/01/2026 20:03

I have this kind of effect in my ensuite. Let me take a photo. I'm not sure now where I got them from.
In the meantime, try Etsy.

That's it: I don't want blocks or cubes or square mosaics like those sheets you can buy and join together. But it would be nice if it was less random than the sort of mosaic you'd end up with if experimenting with bits of sea-tumbled glass - especially as I do not want a divorce!!!

The ready-made mosaic sheets are very pretty, but don't quite achieve what I'm after - sorry, I know I'm being really awkward! They all look a bit sort of Mondrian when they're all put together on a wall. In terms of texture, I'd like the overall effect to be a bit like Michelle Ogundehin's headboard (see pic!) (it's all her fault!!!), but imagine something like that in sea-tumbled glass (see pic).

I have no idea if I'm even making sense!

I know that you said you didnt want mosaics but these do look quite sea glassy Mosaic tiles. They had other colourways too.

They're gorgeous, but I have this bee in my bonnet about something unattainable I think (per my previous post)...

It's probably is attainable just needs customisation. I hope someone comes up with a more helpful suggestion. It does sound like a beautiful romantic design I hope the husband cooperates.

Beachtastic · 07/01/2026 20:20

Your tiles look lovely, @JamMakingWannaBe ! - but as you say, not what I have in my crazed mind...

Thank you for the encouragement, @ZombiLemon . We get so used to everything being available in the 21st century, but I am pretty sure that what I'm looking for does not actually exist... yet!

Or pebble mosaic tiles?

GellerYeller · 07/01/2026 20:47

We had a glass tile border over 20 years ago. They were at least £20 per tile at the time (hence we did not tile the whole room in glass as I’d have liked). They were gorgeous but they did show every watermark and streak though.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/01/2026 20:53

You can buy etching solution that will make glass go non shiny and have that matt frosted look.

Perhaps you could get something like the pebble sheets above in whatever colours, etch them, and then mix them up rather than using them as sheets? Would take an absolute age though!

Lots of nice things here! These aren't quite 'it', OP, but are they close?

This company does a big variety of tiling with what they call jewel glass. We have a bathroom done by them, but they're very ££££

I wonder if it might work to get a stained glass artist to cut you some tiles?
