Where to buy luxurious and soft duvet covers and duvets?

Hi all,

I'm due to replace our duvets and duvet covers so I'm looking for suggestions. We recently stayed in a holiday cottage and loved the bedding which was from Dusk - they look really reasonably priced but some more recent reviews are a bit dodgy so I'm not sure. We always go for white as we like the hotel look which is pretty easy. So please share your recommendations for duvets and duvet covers which feel lovely and soft!

You need to look for thread count of 200 at least, and 100% cotton probably… depends what you mean by ‘soft’. Were they brushed cotton perhaps?

I've just bought us M&S Duck Feather duvets which I absolutely love. They are really cosy and the best duvets I've ever had.

Hungarian goose down duvet from The Duvet Company - light, really warm in winter, but cool in summer. My SK size duvet weighs less than the high thread count duvet cover it’s wrapped in!

I stayed in an Airbnb with feather duvets, loved it, wanted to buy one was told by my teens it was animal cruelty, sadly they were probably right but the duvet was glorious.
I have discovered linen bedding after always having cotton, but I am loving linen, so recommend linen duvet covers and sheets and pillows, piglet in bed are good but there are others.
Otherwise a good quality 100% cotton is also great.
Good quality bedding doesn't come cheap but it is lovely to sleep with!

Hungarian goose down duvet from John Lewis, I can't recall the brand. Expensive but worth every penny.

I’ve got John Lewis Comfy and Relaxed sheet and duvet cover atm which is lovely and soft, bit pricy though. Don’t really need to iron it either.

Are they washable?

Sheets if at least 400 thread count Egyptian cotton.

Butterflysunshine01 · 10/11/2025 01:57

Linenbundle.com - they’re 500 thread count and body temp regulating. Wash so well , we’ve had them years. On Black Friday offer atm too.

I bought a wool duvet a year ago and a wool mattress topper - and it has really helped sleep. They are not the traditional 'soft and fluffy, but instead have a weight to them and form around you in a way that I have not felt before. They also do not get as sweaty.
Add in some nice cotton duvet or for winter a brushed cotton, and it feels really nice.

mamagogo1 · 10/11/2025 15:45

just bought a new duvet from Argos (habitat range) that’s super comfortable, it’s a 10.5 tog super soft washable and not expensive.

for sheets you need a high thread count and to wash them a few times to get them soft

bugalugs45 · 10/11/2025 15:50

I’ve just bought 2 duvet covers from dunlem mill at about £25/£27 each and have to say i’m really impressed !

Not sure how long they will last but washed a few times already and come up lovely . And I’m super fussy re bedding but these are easily comparable to my much more expensive John Lewis ones !

I really rate the feels like down stuff from Dusk. For bedding I like the crisp percale from Rise and Fall.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 10/11/2025 16:41

I bought a feather duvet from M&S, it feels so luxurious. It replaced a down duvet that although warm just didn’t feel heavy enough.

That is the duvet I think they had, has it lasted well?

I have the dusk washed cotton 200 thread count bedding and it’s so soft. Love it

Levithecat · 10/11/2025 17:28

Also have the feels like down duvets which I rate

TheGrimSmile · 10/11/2025 17:30

Goose down is cruel; they pluck them alive. Maybe get the John Lewis "feels like down" one instead.

Rosesarere · 10/11/2025 17:39

down duvet and Dorma 400 thread count sateen sheets. X

Yeah seem to be. I bought mine about two years ago - duvet and pillows. The pillows are so great I replaced all the guest pillows recently with more as I felt guilty mine were so much nicer.

Rituelec · 10/11/2025 17:59

Linen over cotton.
