How do you store your towels?

Sorry for the extremely boring subject, I’d be surprised if anyone’s even opened this thread but here we go.

I have a new shower room and need some towel storage. I have a space 78cm wide and I'm struggling to find a wood cabinet to fit in my price range (would like to spend under £400).

So I’m now wondering if I just have shelves and fold the towels or put in baskets on the shelves.

Will they go mouldy with the humidity of the shower steam?

Has anyone else stored towels open in the shower room?

Thanks!

I've got this yellow licker with shelves for towels. It doesn't take up a lot of space and would fit in your room
It comes in lots different colours too.
It keeps the towels very tidy.

My airing cupboard is tiny and badly sited so I can't extend it. So towels have to be really well dried and aired in the boiler room before they are put away.
I have a free standing towel rack in the bathroom plus a wicker basket full of hand towels.
Larger towels go into an old wooden filing cabinet outside the bathroom.
There is an old mirror and towel rail combined in the loo and a towel ring in the kitchen.
Dog towels are in a bin in the boiler room.

Edited because the word “towels” began to look weird and I doubted my spelling.

'How do you store your towels? '

This sounds like it could be a new feature for Private Eye, supplementing 'Me and My Spoon'

We have some in the airing cupboard and some in the bathrooms.

You need to be able to hang damp towels to dry. So I have a hook or 2 in the bathroom but the rest live in airing cupboard.
If your room is damp enough to get mouldy towels then you'll also get mouldy walls and ceiling. Air the room properly.

If you dry yourself on those and you roll them up again while they’re damp they’ll stink. My SIL has her towels like this - looks great but I never use them because they smell sour. I just use toilet paper to dry my hands.

Surely this storage is for clean towels? Not ones you use then roll up again? If you’re doing that I’m not surprised they smell sour.

Perhaps get a quote from a tradesman to build you something bespoke? It might not be too expensive and you would get exactly what you want.

Airing cupboard but my sister stores hers in 4 drawers under her bed as no airing cupboard. I think her teen has some in drawers under her bed too.

I use a towel ladder for the kids towels and the adults use towelling dressing gowns that are on hooks on the back of the door.

we leave them to dry over the bannister after use (so attractive) and open the window during and after showering to dry the room. No mouldy towel issues here.
