If you have a home with narrow doors and can't get a standard size sofa through, what did you do?

No way around the back. Not prepared to remove windows. Just want a sofa. Why is it so hard? Delivery people can't work miracles despite what the sofa shops try to tell me!

If you've encountered this, what was the outcome?

Well I did have my window popped out. It wasn’t a big deal and super quick. Your only other option is a sofa that comes in parts and you assemble in the room.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 13/06/2025 19:20

The outcome was a large blue shop on the outskirts of town, and we got meatballs on our way out.

Wolfpa · 13/06/2025 19:20

Could you get a flat pack one?

Keysfound · 13/06/2025 19:21

My mom bought a sofa in a box, my sister ordered it so can’t remember details, other than it came in boxes and is comfy. Just googled it and there is more than one company that does this so worth looking at reviews.

We had to get our window popped out in a flat years ago. Was very easy

itsmeits · 13/06/2025 19:33

Bought separates built in the houses
Reminds me of watching the neighbours years ago trying to get a sofa out. They forgot they took it in via the window 😅

soupyspoon · 13/06/2025 19:35

Are you sure it wont fit, you take the legs off normally even if they're small little squat legs. Remember the back is not as high as the back cushions

MoistVonL · 13/06/2025 19:36

Took the door and architrave off. And spindles out of the bannister so we could turn it at the sharp angle required.

It was a bit like the PIVOT! scene in Friends.

Three section recliner put together in the room and the other is a flat pack Ikea one.

G5000 · 13/06/2025 19:37

bought IKEA

Travellingpants · 13/06/2025 19:38

IKEA Ektorp I think still comes with the back separate. We have one of them.

DaveWatts · 13/06/2025 19:39

We got the Border sofa from John Lewis which is modular and comes apart into square sections - we have a v narrow hallway and tight corner to get into the living room. Didn't want a sofa in a box as usually you can't try them out beforehand, and we had an IKEA one before that but it wasn't comfortable.

Etheral · 13/06/2025 19:40

Next have some sofas in a box

DongDingBell · 13/06/2025 19:41

Not recommended for a brand new sofa, but we couldn't get the old sofa in the new house. An upholster came round, unpicked the staples, sawed the frame in half, moved it into the new room, and put it all back together. You can't tell. We'll buy a smaller sofa when it needs replacing!

Etheral · 13/06/2025 19:42

some reclining sofas split down the middle, would that get in.

I paid someone £70 to pop the bay windows out, it took about 10 minutes

Always get the meatballs 👌🏼

Sofa in a box!
Essentially a flat pack sofa.

Don’t get ones without the bottom cushions- they don’t stay comfy.

nouht · 16/06/2025 19:15

Bought a modular from Ikea - happy enough with it.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 16/06/2025 22:54

When we got our new one we had to screw on the feet & push the back cushions into the base (partial self assembly). I assume it came like this so it would easily go through the door.

ItWasntMyFault · 16/06/2025 23:33

I’ve got one that comes apart in sections.

Wincher · 17/06/2025 09:38

We have just taken out the living room window every time we’ve needed to move a sofa in or out. It’s honestly easy at least here, it’s a big double glazed opening window and you just unscrew it in two places and it comes right out.

Lulu1919 · 17/06/2025 09:55

Take window out
