Newly single - help me set up my home

I’ve just left a 15 year relationship, and will soon be living alone for the first time. I’m mostly excited to have my own safe space, but part of me also feels daunted.

Please help me set up my own safe haven - I’ve got key furniture / crockery etc. but what are the things that really make a house a home? Especially for a newly singly almost 40 year old. No kids, so just need to set it up as my own cosy, safe space.

Less is more. Don't fill your space with things for the sake of it. Take your time.
Choose things you love, that make you smile and that make you comfortable.

Smart home speakers like Amazon Echo really come into their own when you live alone as they don’t get triggered by mistake and are good for podcasts/music when you’re cooking or doing housework (it’s much quieter, you might welcome some background noise).

Also, a cat.

When you live alone, you never have to use a wet bathmat – enjoy your safe new home!

think about zones and making them as easy/comfortable as possible, everything within reach…

Some lovely bedding - cotton, in a colour you love, with cosy throw and decorative cushions.

A lovely place to get ready in the morning - dressing table with good mirror and lighting, nice pots for your bits, hairdryer etc to hand.

Kettle zone in the kitchen is important to me! Favourite mugs, nice choice of teas etc.

It took me years to out artwork up once I had my own space as I wanted to find things that felt right and personal to me.

Don’t rush it. It comes with time as you live in a space and refine it and think about how you really want it to be and refine it. Save up for bits you truly love.

Well I am single & love pink so I have a pinky grey carpet to match my Heather grey next sofa & jasmine white walls. Planning to get pink coloured glass splashbacks when I do the kitchen!
if I ever move a man in he’ll have to cope!

Art and lamps is a good place to start. Havens don’t have overhead lighting on.

I have pure white 100% cotton duvet covers and quality duvet covers and pillows.

As well as home items I bought beautiful underwear, sleepwear, nice bathsoaks

Weighted blanket, cosy sofa blanket, Alexa (I have one in every room now 😂), just having an organised home i.e. storage, dishwasher, massive television, useful kitchen appliances for cooking, nice cookbooks, artwork, framed photos, reed diffuser, front door mat, fresh flowers, plants in pots, outdoor fairy lights.
