Has anyone got a dark painted living room?

I really fancy painting my living room and darker colour. Its a large victorian room, north facing, but I'm nervous of winter and darker evenings. Does anyone have a darker living room and if you do, do you regret it?

My paint options are on the picture, goodhome Milltown or Saint Raphael...

I have a north facing front room, got fed up with trying to make it lighter & brighter so embraced the dark mine is painted in Sanderson Vineyard a dark green some of the old battered wood furniture I painted in Puck by LG which is a more dark bottle green than the walls, also have soft furnishings in dusky pink/hot pink green lamp bases with pink shades, I don’t really use the room during the daytime so being in there in the evenings makes it feel very cosy & restful wish I’d done it years ago rather than trying endless variations of cream/beige/off white.

Ours is Pompadour (Edward Bulmer) and I love it...so cosy and still bright due to large windows.

Yes it makes it even cosier in winter, fairy lights and lamps look better too

Our sitting room is painted dark green. We love it, especially in winter.

Had lots of compliments too.

My DD has Victorian house and the sitting room is north facing. She has painted it dark blue and it is fabulous.

@flummingbird we live in a north facing Edwardian house and the sitting room is north facing. I decided to embrace the dark and go dark green. It attracts loads of positive comments and we love it on winter nights. We are fortunate that we have a second sitting room at the back of the house which is south facing so have the best of both worlds.

Mine’s fairly dark and I love it! This is an odd photo but you can see the wall colour. I have this painting and quite a lot of cushions and other bits in pink and red shades that really pop against the green.

Isn’t the answer that everyone has a dark painted living room?

North facing dining room here, lots of wood panelling and a big fireplace, dark stained wood window frames, quite traditional A&C wooden furniture. We went for dark chocolate graduating through neopolitan ice cream shades up to palest pink for the ceiling and coving, dark bronze light switches and fittings. Lighter shades once you get above shoulder height but still plenty of dark, cosy stuff to anchor the room - and it meant we didn't have to pfaff about painting the sahs windows, you could just blend it in. Looks fab at Christmas.

Ours is a dark green/grey and it looks great

It works, I think, because we have large windows and plenty of white - ceiling and above the picture rail is white, all the woodwork, fireplace, lots of pictures on the walls with white surrounds.

Also we have an old gold sofa and oak floor which provide warmth

Even so - I wouldn’t want to sit there in the daytime. It’s very much an evening or winter afternoon room. So I do regret it a bit.
