Carpet!

I bought some Cormar carpet four years ago and carpeted my whole flat in it.

In January I noticed large holes appearing in the carpet. The carpet is moth proof and there was a sand like texture by the holes, perhaps the Hessian backing.

I contacted Flooring Superstore and they said it's moths. I explained that the carpet is moth proof and I don't have moths.

They said that it can't be the carpet as I ordered the carpet on separate occasions. I didn't, I ordered extra carpet but had it all delivered on the same day.

They have agreed to replace the carpet but not refund. They don't sell my carpet anymore but said they'll replace it to the full amount and heavily discount any additional carpet.

Should I push for a refund?

I don't hink you have any consumer rights to ask for a refund when they have offered repair or replacement. I would take them up on the full replacement.

Replacement without a fuss seems a good deal to me.

After that you could review that brand of carpet on Trustpilot?

ScottBakula · 02/04/2025 14:05

I would think moth proof means it's been treated with some kind of moth repellent chemicals, if this is the case have you shampooed it ?
Was there a shampoo or after treatment recommended that you didn't use?

Any which way I'd still go for the replacement and fitting rather that a refund.

I contacted the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline. They said replacement was the way to go because they don't have to give me a full refund.

I am protected for six years which I'm currently under. They're still arguing with me though and seem to be back tracking.

They're saying the issue is moths. I'm arguing that the carpet is moth proof and I don't have moths. If it is moths, that's a manufacturing issue.

I showed them the moth proof guarantee of the manufacturer. They said that they don't get carpets from that manufacturer. That's clearly false because the carpet is Cormar and I bought it from them.

They argued that the carpet could not be faulty because I ordered separate pieces. I argued that I bought two pieces of carpet, one remnant (which is fine) and the rest is faulty and seems to be crumbling.

They argued that if the carpet was faulty it would have been apparent when it was fitted. I said that it was disintegrating which has obviously happened over time.

I said again that I'd like the carpet replaced. No response.

Here's a copy of the chat where they offered a replacement or heavily discounted replacement.
