How often do you decorate your home?

Inspired by another thread I've realised this is the longest I've lived in one house (12 years). The kitchen was painted 8 years ago, lounge maybe 6, bedrooms 7, 8 and 3 years ago. Lots of it needs doing again. How frequently do you repaint rooms in your house? Do you do it all at once or bit by bit?

We moved here 23 years ago, we did most of the house in the first year, but there were a couple of rooms that never got done and babies came along, life was busy, we have done the whole house now but the last couple of rooms were only in the last couple of years. Some of the ones we did originally could do with re-doing now (bedrooms) but they are small and it’s really hard moving and working round the furniture - if you pushed it into the middle you would have to squeeze round the outsides and there is no space in other rooms to move it to unless we get it downstairs, which is also making it a huge job replacing carpets. We have always chosen plain, fairly neutral walls and carpets so they don’t really date and haven’t too many scuffs etc.

We did the bathroom when we moved in and it could do with replacing now, the bath/toilet/sink are fine but flooring, tiles etc are dated and worn now. The kitchen had been done recently when we moved in and we gutted it about 4 years ago and re-fitted, so that was after about 20 years.

@ExtraDecluttering moving everything about to get to the walls or floors is the bit I find hardest too. Would be so easy to decorate in an empty house!

Do the posters of over 10/20 years not get bored with the decor or see anything new they'd like?

Not really. All of our walls and flooring are pretty neutral so I'll still change cushions, throws, bedding, rugs, some furniture, pictures etc. but I don't feel the need to ditch everything in a room and start again.

If things were broken, damaged or scruffy I'd change them but we tend to look after stuff fairly well. I do also cringe slightly when I see almost brand new sofas and accessories for sale with '12 months old, selling due to colour change', it seems such a waste but appreciate it's my view and everyone's different.

@SnoopysHoose yes but I’m not prepared to spend too frequently. It would be a bit wasteful. We’ve had some major works done in those 18 years plus kids so general decorating has taken a backseat.

@HallStairsandLanding
What you're doing is ideal, I have seen posters who have a home untouched in 10/20 years, which I find unusual.
